What Can Be Done About Gun Violence in Schools?

The first school shooting was in 17 64. Is it time to go on the defensive of the defense and prepare our children for this reality? If so, how my husband is in law enforcement, and he underwent extensive active shooter training. Do you think these sorts of defenses would come to fruition and public school setting? Any insight that can be provided would be ful.
