Beowulf is in some senses, it's like the most overstudied poem in history. Once you get into it, you start to realize why it's so attractive. The author of Beowulf first of all is a Christian. It's a sort of Rosetta stone for medieval Christianity. And then try to figure out how we'd inherited things that they'd also tried to fit into the modern world.
