In 1989 the Supreme Court of India passed a landmark ruling. It said that every doctor has an obligation to extend his services with new expertise for protecting life. Rajasthan's Right to Health Act ended up being controversial. Doctors at private hospitals were miffed, they took to the streets in protest. For two weeks private hospitals turned their lights off. The state government finally relented this week. They agreed to tweak the act and kept small hospitals out of the act. But here's the thing, the tweaks have removed 98% of the private hospitals from the list. There's nothing left but to go to a public hospital anyway.
