Ulysses grant's tomb was built near by clermont inn up here in 18 97 th. The tomb was actually built inside that carriage loop. It would eventually, just a few years later, the manhattan valley viaduct, which is this beautiful vehicular bridge with beautiful metal arches. This would expand riverside avenue up to 150 eighth street.
