The Role of T-Regs in Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia

Whether immunosuppressive mechanisms contribute to the pathogenesis of Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia remains largely unknown. T-regulatory immune cells or T-regs play a vital role in immune self-tolerance but can also support cancer cells through immune suppression and evasion. The authors used a series of in vitro and cell-based experiments as well as a transgenic mirroring model of Waldenstrom macroglobulemia. They found that bone marrow microenvironment is enriched with infiltrating CD4 positive T lymphocytes over CD8 positive T-cells.
