I feel like sometimes startups just have a window. We need to get this stuff done, and they're not thinking super long-term. I can guarantee you, though, that some amount of testing for pretty much every team is going to be better than no testing. But if you don't have buy-in from engineering leadership, that's a hard sell. Because it's not just I write tests, my code is better. It's I need to discuss with my team what needs to be tested, what contracts are need to remain stable? What makes a good test? Those are value calls that there are no absolutes.
