The Siege of Constantinople
After 47 days of siege, the end was near. It was time for an all-out assault along the entire wall. The only uncommitted troops left were his household regiments among them Ali and the Janissaries. Drums pounded and pipes broke. War cries in Turkish field beer. Church bills rang from inside the city. Mehmed didn't hesitate. He sent forward his last remaining troops in a general assault on May 29th. There was a breach ahead of them.
