The History of the Hikolites in the Middle Kingdom
Hikos were a distinct group in an egyptian world that was much more diverse than we might expect. Their ancestors had presumably lived in tel el baba for more than a century. They had taken on aspects of egyptian culture and so on. These new elites fought against their rivals, the rulers of dynasties based in upper egypt to the south. Some of these hiko lites were kings, not foreign kings, but egyptian kings.
