The Role of Copper in Iron Metabolism

Copper is intimately involved in iron metabolism, so involved that copper deficiency can cause anemia that looks almost exactly like iron deficiency. Two of the most prominent roles of copper in iron metabolism are to support an enzyme called cerebraloplasmin and hefestin. If you have someone who has normal iron levels, but is copper deficient, then they may manifest anemia similar to iron deficiency anemia with the exception that iron levels aren't low or high.
