The first ten minutes of "Alien" are some of the best in movie history. The script is sparse, and there's very little in it to know more about everything than you already do. It feels like movies aren't made this way any more. And so much of that is because it's allowed to just be what it is. But at the same time, if you feel like you're just going down a check list, checking boxes, your audience is got to bump on it.
