In the first case argued on Wednesday, the family of a U.S. citizen killed by Islamic state in a 2015 Paris attack argued that Google should be held liable for software algorithms that recommended terrorist videos to YouTube users. Justice Clarence Thomas suggested that companies can't be sued if their recommendation algorithms are neutral about the kind of content they promote. Joining me is Eric Goldman, a professor at Santa Clara University School of Law and Co-Director of the High Tech Law Institute. The justices were more on the side of the judges who had rejected these cases in the beginning than the end," says Goldman.
