Contempt of Congress - What's the Point?
The idea is to deter contempt of congress byby judicially punishing people who act in contempt of congress, exactly. So the're different types of contempt. One is civil contempt, which is generally, like you said, coercive. Criminal contempt is punitive and deterrent. It's to punish some one for a contempt they've completed and to deter other people from doing it.
