The History of Tudor Needlework

Isabella Rosner is a textile historian and expert on Tudor needlework. She tells BBC Radio 3 about the Sweet Bag, an embroidered pouch used to hold gifts or fragrances. There are more than 100 surviving examples of sweet bags but they never appear in paintings or prints. The same can be said for most other Tudor era textiles. Gone are King Henry VIII's doublets and Queen Elizabeth I's ruffs.
