The Different Types of Seismic Waves
compression wave is a wave also known as a primary wave. They're the faster of the seismic waves and usually arrive first. P waves have both vertical and horizontal components, but that does not cause the most damage. Shear waves closest to the epicenter are more extreme than your shear wave. And our last type of wave here is our surface wave can also be called the love wave.
