The loudness, the messiness and discomfort of tears is what gives them their power. Benjamin: When we cry or when we see someone else cry, we're offered a choice. Do we honor the fullness of the person's humanity who's experiencing this thing? And those kinds of questions of disrupting peace to honor the suffering that someone's experiencing invites us to do something different.
