The Discourse Between Thomas Carlisle and John Stuart Mill

Thomas Carlisle wrote this occasional discourse on the Negro question and then John Stuart Mill responded to him can I talk about that. It's an argument plays out in the British and transatlantic press at the very end of the 1840s and into the early 1850s when Carlisle who's already well known as a great controversialist moralist rights and essay. The language throughout is aggravatingly aggravatedly indisputably racist hugely problematic caricature racism deployed. And so it's really important to realize that even in his own time the vast majority of his friends and his supporters thought he had gone way too far he was overstepping what was possible within the genre or motive satire.
