In India, the standards for drugs and medical devices are covered under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940. A parliamentary standing committee on health and family welfare studied the matter more than 10 years ago. In Truthbill, the book about the pharmaceutical industry in India, the authors say that the Indian drug regulator is responsible. They argue that drug regulation in the West has evolved after disasters.
