Tangerine is one of the movies that made us feel empathy for characters we never would have. Paul: I find it, I'm against empathy, but I appreciate the exercise of getting in the heads of somebody who you wouldn't otherwise. Jesse Bering's book, Purve, is really wonderful. It's about unusual sexual desires and a lot of them depicted in movies and novels. And so to some extent they deserve sympathy, if not empathy.
