The Importance of Water on Training Rides
Joe's maximum sustainable effort is a heart rate right around 110, or roughly the equivalent of an able-bodied person climbing stairs for a while. Most quads don't sweat below their injury so Joe would have to do it manually and douse himself with water. He can't raise his blood pressure because this system isn't efficient enough. It's called autonomic dysreflexia, and it's actually dangerous if you don't recognize the problem and your blood pressure stays too long.
