HoP 091 - James Wilberding on Nature and Neoplatonism
History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps
00:00
Introduction
People have a tendency to think of the neoplatonists as being not very interested in natural philosophy, says Professor James Wilberding. He argues that there's a reason for this because unlike say Aristotle and Galen who were doing empirical research dissecting bodies they weren't bringing that into their philosophy. But he also points out that even though they're interested in texts such as Aristotle wrote all of these biological texts theNeoplatonists don't really spend much time on his biological treatises.
