Town Meeting in Vermont
Every year, in most of new england, town citizens become legislators for one day a year. They vote on issues that affect them directly and sometimes they talk about more global concerns like immigration and climate change. A lot of local power has eroded and is in thehands of the state and the federal government now. But every item that is on the agenda is voted on publicly and in person by town residents. It's one of the last examples of direct, face to face democracy.
