prolonged grief disorder occurs in a very small proportion of people. It means that the grief people are experiencing is preventing them from really functioning in their life. For me, the most important reason to have this diagnosis now is that there have been a number of random clinical trials looking at psychotherapy interventions which can help those who've had it for a decade function better.
