Introduction
The idea of Chinese dead trap diplomacy has spread like wildfire within the past few years. The story usually goes that China pressures borrowing countries in the global South to take on these really predatory loans with all kinds of honors, terms, and conditions. This grad student paper was then widely cited by a bunch of media publications. And this is really like the number one example that a lot of people point to as evidence of Chinese that trap diplomacy.
