In ancient Egypt, it was believed that if you destroyed all records of someone's name, their Ka would just no longer exist. There is evidence that for some of the more unpopular pharaohs, such as Akhenaten, they had this attempted on them so that they wouldn't be remembered and their Ka would be destroyed. So super relevant to the afterlife. The book of the dead lists the names of the guardians of the gates to the afterlife so that by knowing them, the deceased can gain power over these guardians and be allowed to pass into the afterlife.
