When you're separating from the military part of your access to resources and disability is directly connected to your service record. And so it puts a veteran in a position where they have to now prove in some ways that they are deserving of this disability. It can be very re-traumatizing for someone who's maybe never shared about something that happened in the sexual assault or something that happened to me while I was deployed. "I think engagement is huge, both in the active duty and veteran realm," she says.
