The overarching point of rusty brown was to capture the sense of inevitable change and shift of memory as we unseeingly recall and anticipate our lives while life itself passes us by. The main character, rusty brown's father, is born a rusty brown because he writes it in the wake of his parents' deaths. There are two characters that seem a little close to homei'm a teacher named franklin, christianson ware, and an astronot named chipa. I decided to make one of the characters look like me and have my name because i needed a real jerk of a character. And besides the whole idea of the book being to try to find the good in everybody, i thought
