All Quiet on the Western Front won seven of 14 categories in which it was nominated at the BAFTA's, including best film. It is the most successful non-English language film in BAFTA history. Film has been panned in its native Germany and decried as war-kitch by critics with many disputing loads of the directors' decisions. Inventing new storylines or emitting significant characters and crucial scenes not always historically accurate.
