In April 1933, legal beer made its triumphant, celebrated long awaited return. The entire supply was consumed within two days. People bought nickel bottles by the dozen in grocery stores and from street stands. Restaurants were packed with diners lingering over their gold-filled steins. Some of the speakeas used carefully converted to legitimacy.
