The Evolution of the Goth Identity
Identities can be acquired and forged over the course of a lifetime. Volphila had been born at Terevangi beyond the frontier around the year 340. He would have encountered Goths from other subgroups, including Franks, Alamani, Sarmaceans. In that context, being a Goth was probably more important to him than any identification with a TereVangi.
