The Importance of Archival Materials in Pediatrics in the 1950s

In the 1950s, pediatrics was very much detached from caring for children with disabilities. A young pediatrician in New York City decided to open a clinic for those who couldn't find care elsewhere. She had to negotiate for clinical space at New York Medical College to even do this. It's worth noting that what is today called the ARC, what then was called the Association for Retarded Children, began at this time as well.
