Capitalist ideology engineers the obsession with status and then pretends it's natural. In other words, we've just been puppets for so long we can't see the strings any more. You look a no feudal systems before capitalism. Thas not as though there were no inequalities, but in fact, the equalities much worse pre capitalism. We find very modernity on the left all the bad parts of them for good reason.
