Ruth Ben-Ghiat: A lot of people who have very inclusive ideas in the abstract are extremely reluctant when it comes to being inclusive in their own community. She says there's a gap between demonstrated public pronouncements and virtue and what they're willing to do. "The nimby spirit is literally saying to a lot of American communities, one of the reasons why I have something that's so great is because you're not a part of it," she says.
