The Importance of Morality
I don't have familiar with like Sam Harris is, you know, moral landscape, things like this. But one of the biggest problems I have with it is it seems to operate an assumption that like what morality is about is like increasing well-being or reducing suffering. And so I'm making lists like probably 20 of these kind of things that seem to deviate from just thinking about what creates well-being. There's a rich philosophical tradition arguing both for and against that position. It's kind of yeah, I guess philosophers are actually fairly evenly split on this question of what is the nature of morality or or ethics.
