The Risks of HRT in Premature Menopause
There is an association with a small increased risk of breast cancer. This is believed to be due to the hormones promoting breast cancer cells that's already there and that haven't yet become clinically evident, rather than causing cells to turn into cancer. Women who can take estrogen only, who don't have a who don't need to take progesterone for them, there's very little risk. There is a little bit more risk if we take the combined HRT, estrogen and progesterone - which is what's required by most women.
