The Racial Disparity in the Prison Population

According to the bureau of justice statistics, black people comprise a disproportionately high percentage of arrests. Not all of the racial disparities in the prison population can be explained by crime rates alone. There are more factors at play here, and disregarding race and history as a factor would constitute an incomplete analysis. The criminal justice system is an institution that primarily reacts to, rather than prevents crime. And it's seen in the public eye as our best approach to the issue of crime.
