The Zoot Suit and the Rationing of Nylon Stockings
In the middle of world war too, we've talked about how there were rations, and those rations extended to fabric. One of the arguments made against the zoot suit was that these people who wore them were not sacrificing for the war. And so it quickly becomes a not just that your flout the rations, but that you're un american, that you don't support the war. That feeds into all those other pre existing racis ideas about mexicans and mexican Americans in los angeles.
