In Silicon Valley a year ago, you had to say homomorphic encryption at least once in the first 10 seconds or people didn't think you were smart. "Don't be intimidated, ask questions and try to make sure you have your facts in place before you make decisions about data," he says. Data collection is also important from a security perspective, right? Because unless you have the right level of profiling of users, you cannot decide which user is about to deduce you versus which user is getting unethically and properly penalized.

Nishant Bhajaria is cybersecurity and data privacy executive and the author of “Data Privacy: A Runbook for Engineers”.
