Are You Using a Stethoscope to Study the Earth's Crust?

We have seismometers on land, but they are very far away from the islands. So we really need to cover the whole area of the oceans with these instruments. The closest you are to the region that you want to study, the better you will hear it. We use a sort of stethoscope to try and understand what's going on underneath in the crust and below. But the way you're doing it is quite interesting as well because you're doing some sort of acoustic communication.
