Is Isaac in the Wrong for Even Wanting to Bless Esau?

Is the blessing here the same thing as the birthright that Esau had already sold? Did Isaac even know that happened? I mean, I was reading back through Genesis 25 and he's not mentioned in that narration. So what are we to make of this on Isaac's part?
