The Psychology of Early Christian Martyrdom
Perpetu sees her martyrdom as spiritual combat. She knows she'll die a martyr, so she conveys that to the others. This is God's triumph over the world and everyone in the world is going to look this way too. That just doesn't seem like victory yet because we have a crucifix in all of our churches.
