I think what you have to do is get into the family early. And that's through visiting nursing programs where you meet the mother while she's pregnant, carry through the first two to three years. Those women appreciate the resources they get. Because it doesn't only help them in their mothering, but often these visiting nurses give them help in making decisions about their own lives. I mean, after all, it's still about a quarter of black children are born to unwed mothers who were younger than 24.
