The Dollar Doom Loop
The idea is you have a stronger dollar, then that leads to lower manufacturing around the world. So people make less stuff, and that means lower commodity prices which in turn reduces global trade. That worries people about global growth, and that makes the dollar stronger again. You go round the loop again and again. And certainly those higher input costs for their businesses, particularly manufacturing, does require energy, an that's going to be a problem.
