The Joke Is the Community
The idea is that if you can participate in some sort of transgressive joke, you create a community. Em isn't not attending in order to show the ridiculousness of the event. He's doing it because he's trying to maintain his pesc personal reasons. The weather used was like a mirth or something like the idea that when you tell a joke, it produces a kind of intimacy in its audience. So the comedy becomes the event. Not yet.
