The Importance of Dependency Free Packages

If I ever were to make my own programming language, I would at least try to explore what it would be like if packages couldn't have subdependencies. So your application could depend on a bunch of packages, but those packages couldn't depend on anything in turn. That sounds pretty interesting to me because back in the day for like front and JavaScript packages was that they would announce themselves as dependency free.
