The Revisionist History of Austrian Economics

Hayek's Nobel Prize had the effect of reawakening interest among younger American Austrians in Hayek's earlier work, as well as in Mises' writings. Our position will be that a more important aspect of the resurgence consisted in purely doctrinal developments. The perception that the vitality of the Austrian tradition in economic theory came to an end in about 1940 is categorically rejected by this revisionist view. In fact, precisely at the time when the orthodox historical account saw the Austrian school as having died, precisely in that period were making perhaps the most important theoretical contributions ever made during the entire span of the school's existence.
