Medicare Surcharge - What's the Difference?
There are two tiers of Medicare surcharge. One is 1%, and the other one is 1.5%. This is in addition to the 2% Medicare Levy, which we all have to pay. If you're a single parent or defector couple, the same rules apply as for rebates. Every child increases the income tiers by $1,500. When shopping around for private health insurance, please don't get cover just to avoid paying the surcharge. Research and history shows some covers are absolute rubbish.
