i think the octopus is the closest thing we have on earth to a rival. Your gut has as many neurons as there are neurons in your spinal cord. We tend to interpret intelligent animals, like dogs, as not very good humans. The first invention of the human being was the dog. I've seen a rival: western scrub jays who bury food and then dig it up later when no one's looking. And they do all sorts of revolting things that bi's anot the one crows.
