The US-Taiwan Friendship

Taiwan is a flourishing multi-party democracy of over 20 million people with a vibrant free market economy. It is a leading trade partner of the United States alongside much bigger countries like Brazil and India. The Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 forms the basis of US policy regarding the security of Taiwan. Its premise is that an adequate defense in Taiwan is conducive to maintaining peace and security while differences remain between Taiwan and the PRC. We do not support Taiwan becoming its own country but we also do not consider Taiwan to be a part of China.
