Putin's Leaning Into the Russian National Anthem
Do you think Putin purposely sort of played into that? Oh, absolutely. Most famously, Yeltsin started to change that he had a coal commission set up and they wrote a new Russian national anthem, two different lyrics. And then of course, Putin reversed that as well. He took back the Soviet tune and just changed the lyrics to have it referred to Russia. A lot of his ideology is actually based off of the continuity through the Soviet era.
