I was reading Max's autobiography, not long. One of the most disturbing scenes in the book is there, he's the young Malcolm standing in front of a mirror trying to conch his hair. He says, this is my first really big step towards self degradation, literally burning my flesh to have to have a look like a white man's hair. And then he talks to a nation of Islam some years later, and he says, who taught you to hate the texture of your hair?
